This dish felt like a weeknight dinner win.
I wanted something simple, but full of flavor and this came together in less than 20 minutes.
Inspired by a recipe I came across, while adding my own flair, this dish uses just a few ingredients… layered napa cabbage, thinly sliced ribeye, and a garlic, ginger, honey soy dipping sauce that brings everything together.
As it cooks, the cabbage softens, the beef turns tender, and all those flavors settle into something that feels both light and satisfying at the same time.
Mille Feuille is French for “a 1000 leaves”, referring to the layered appearance, and Nabe is Japanese for Hotpot.
This is one of those meals that feels almost too easy, but delivers every time.
Low Carb Mille Feuille Nabe (inspired by Korean Hotpot)
1 Napa Cabbage, quartered vertically
1.5 lbs thinly sliced Rib Eye steak
Green Onion tops, thinly sliced
Sauce
1 tsp Garlic,minced
1 tsp Ginger, minced
1 TB Soy Sauce
1 TB Sesame Oil
1 TB Honey
1 TB Lemon Juice
Black Pepper
1 TB Sesame Seeds, white and black
2 TB Water (or cooking liquid from the dish)
Chili crisp oil, to taste
Quarter the Napa cabbage and layer the thinly sliced beef in between the leaves
Place in microwave dish with lid (I like using Anyday cookware). Then top with fresh cracked black pepper and place half cup of water in the bottom of the dish. Cover and microwave for 10-12 mins.
While your Mille Feuille is cooking make the dipping sauce. Mix dipping sauce ingredients together in a small bowl: Ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, lemon juice, sesame seeds, chili crisp oil, and water, or the liquid from the Mille Feuille dish.
Once your dish is cooked pour the dipping sauce over the cabbage and beef. Top with the sliced green onions and enjoy on its own or you can serve with rice.
