Low Carb Easy Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

Sometimes you just want stick to your ribs comfort food and whether your mom made it every Sunday or it’s a diner menu favorite… you can’t go wrong with vintage American fare like Salisbury Steak and gravy. It’s no secret I love to be adventurous when it comes to food, trying new cuisines and new ingredients, but I also have a great love for tried and true American family dishes. This dish just makes me want to cuddle up with a blanket up to my chin and snuggle in for an evening of movie watching with the family.

Using Heinz store bought gravy makes it an easy way to still be low carb during a busy weeknight. By adding your own flare and additional ingredients you can make it your very own.

Low Carb Salisbury Steak and Gravy

2 lbs 80/20 Ground Beef

2 eggs

1/2 cup Almond flour

Salt and pepper

1/2 pint Cremini Mushrooms, sliced

1/4 cup Yellow Onion, sliced

Olive oil

1 TB Better than Bouillon Beef base

1 Jar Heinz Mushroom gravy

1 Jar Heinz Pork Gravy

In a large mixing bowl combine the eggs, salt , pepper, and almond flour. Then mix in the ground beef till just mixed, being careful not to overwork it. Form the mix into 5 oval shaped patties.

In a skillet heat up the olive oil. Once the oil is hot enough, add the patties searing and browning on both sides, approximately 4-5 mins per side. Remove patties from the heat and set aside. Drain off the fat and almost all the oil from the skillet.

In the same skillet sauté the sliced onions for a few mins then add the mushrooms while stirring it with the bits of ground beef left in the pan. Once mushrooms and onions are finished add both jars of gravy, stirring well. Mix in the beef bouillon and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a high simmer.

Lower the heat and cook gravy on a low simmer. Once you turn down the heat, add the beef patties back into the skillet with gravy, spooning some of the gravy on top of each patty. Cover the skillet and simmer for 8 mins, flip the patties and repeat, simmering for another 8 mins. This finishes cooking the patties.

Let cool for a bit and serve!

Cooking Tips:

=Do not overwork your ground beef by mixing it too much it could make your patties tough and dry. I always use 80/20.

=Flatten out your patties for a more even cook, and prevent them from becoming too domed in the center.
